the French government will nationalize STX France temporary, but the negotiations with Rome will continue



Today the French government has announced to have determined the temporary nationalization of shipbuilding society STX France after yesterday the Italian executive, for mouth of minister Padoan ( on 26 July 2017), it had confirmed that from Italian part the acquisition of quotas the transalpine navalmeccanica company by the Fincantieri group would have happened only if this last one had obtained the majority of the capital and the control of STX France, rejecting therefore the proposal of a participation 50:50 of Italy and France shown from Paris.

The French minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, has explained that the decision is assumed to exercise the preemptive right of the State in STX France, decision that - it has specified - "has as only objective that to defend the strategic interests of France in the field of the shipbuilding. The ship yards of Saint-Nazaire - it has emphasized - constitute an excellence industrial park of France. We intend to contrive to assure to the dependent, the region, the customers, to the subcontractors, but also to all the French who the exceptional competences of the ship yards of Saint-Nazaire in terms of construction so as of professionality they remain in France".

"We have made - it has continued the French minister - a proposal to the Italian government for sharing on an equal base of the responsibility of these yards. We have offered to the industrial group Italian Fincantieri to take to a quota 50% of the ship yards of Saint-Nazaire, leaving they the operational control of the society. This reasonable proposal remains on the table. It allows to safeguard the interests strategic of France and to make to participate our Italian friends to the French shipbuilding. We - he has announced the Maire - in the next few days will continue to negotiate on this base with our Italian friends. For this purpose I will go to Rome the next week in order to discuss with the minister of the Economy and Finances, Padoan. and with the minister of the economic Development, Calenda, than this week I have felt to the telephone in numerous occasions".

The French minister has rimarcato that however the ship yards of Saint-Nazaire are not destined to remain under the state control: "the decision that we have assumed to exercise the pre-emption - has specified - it is therefore a temporary decision. He must give the time to us to negotiate in the best possible conditions the participation of Fincantieri to the ship yards of Saint-Nazaire, to the aim to hard construct to an European industrial project and ambitious".
