In the early hours of this morning the bulk Rosalia D'Amato di Navigazione SpA Italy's Perseverance, carrying 22 crew members including six Italians and 15 Filipinos, was seized by pirates while transiting to about 320 miles off the coast of ' Oman. The unit, of 74,500 deadweight tons, was sailing from the Iranian port of Bandar Imam Khomeini to the Brazilian port of Paranagua when it was attacked by a single vessel.
Currently the ship is followed at a distance from the Turkish Navy frigate Giresun, which is used in the mission of the international coalition Atlanta Naval Force Somalia European Union (EU NAVFOR).
