Yesterday, at the end of the second meeting with representatives of the Italian Navigation Company (CIN), a company that won the tender for the privatization of Tirrenia, the Fit-CISL union, reported that CIN, which does not adhere to any organization employers, proposed the immediate recruitment of all seafarers in Tirrenia, including those in special complement and seasonal, with guaranteed pay equal to that seen to date, and the full maintenance of all employees, pending the establishment, within six months from next July 1, a new organic structure of contract.
For its part, the national secretary of Fit-CISL, Benjamin Leon, reaffirmed the position of its review, from two years longer than the obligation to continue to employ all seamen, the conduct of a substantial continuity of contracts and 'employment which do not in any way affect workers, especially in view of the intention reaffirmed by the new owners to recover large market shares and offer more services of better quality to attract substantial part of the clientele in recent years has Tirrenia abandoned.
Fit-CISL also requested that it be submitted by CIN a formal proposal on which reserves the right to express a detailed opinion on the merits. According to the union, many points remain to be clarified and the real prospect and only a rigorous analysis of all the impact on employees and the service will tell if it is finally on the right track to a successful conclusion of the privatization of Tirrenia.
The Fit-CISL - said the national secretary Leo Benjamin - recalls the sense of ownership and responsibility of the new union reiterates its readiness to strike a comprehensive agreement, which protects workers in all its forms and offer enhanced possibilities of sustainable development to new Tirrenia, to ensure that those lines of communication are vital to the country's already fragile areas.
