The Japanese shipping group Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) today announced a preliminary project to build a new ship garages with zero emissions is being developed thanks to funding granted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in Tokyo. The car carrier to be launched in June 2012 by the Kobe shipyard of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group.
The ship will be equipped with a hybrid power generation that will combine the production of energy by using solar panels with lithium batteries, the capacity of about 2.2 megawatts / hour, for the storage of electricity. The system is developed by a team of expert groups of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Sanyo Electric and MOL. The electrical system will be used when the ship is in port with the goal of zero emissions.
