Royal Caribbean Cruises is pleased with the results achieved in the first part of this year, although it has been a marked deterioration in the market of the eastern Mediterranean caused by geopolitical events in the area."Since our last report - said the president and CEO of the U.S. group, Richard Fain - the state of tension in the eastern Mediterranean has caused a further deterioration in prices for this region. Fortunately, our other markets are experiencing very positive results and we were able to continue to reduce costs. As a result, profits are still growing appreciably from last year, but these difficulties have had an impact on our performance expectations for this year even better. Our long-term forecasts continue to be quite positive, with the strengthening of the balance sheet and substantial liquidity, we are pleased to restore our dividends. We intend to continue to pay quarterly dividends at this level or higher as our performance improves and we are working to our goal of returning to 'investment grade'.
In the first half of this year's ships of Royal Caribbean Cruises have hosted 2,400,488 passengers, an increase of 7.6% over the first six months of 2010. In the second quarter of 2011 were 1,185,679 passengers, an increase of 6.5% over the same period last year.
