In the first quarter of fiscal 2011, corresponding to the period April to June this year, the three major Japanese Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha shipping companies ("K" Line), Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) and Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) have incurred in a marked worsening of their economic performance and operating results being recorded net negative value.
"K" Line has closed the quarter with a net loss of over 3.7 billion yen (46.2 million dollars) on revenues of 244.2 billion yen compared to a net profit of 15.8 billion yen on revenues of 253.8 billion yen in April-June period of 2010. Operating income was a negative 9.9 billion yen compared to a profit of 23.1 billion yen in the first quarter of fiscal 2010.
The MOL Group has achieved a net loss of 8.0 billion yen on revenues of 349.1 billion yen compared to a net profit of 20.8 billion yen on revenues 397.0000000000 yen in April-June period 2010.The operating loss amounted to 8.6 billion yen compared to an operating profit of 39.1 billion yen in the first quarter of fiscal 2010.
In the first quarter of fiscal 2011 NYK has recorded a net loss of 7.1 billion yen on revenues of 447.7 billion yen compared to a net profit of 22.9 billion yen on revenue of 504.7 billion yen in the same period last year. Operating income was a negative 10.4 billion yen compared to a profit 40.0000000000 yen in April-June period of last year.
