The EU commission anticipates a project of directive for the sustainable management of the coastal and marine zones



The EU commission has formulated a project of directive, that it is introduced today, in which is met the proposals in order to improve the planning of the marine activities and the management of the coastal zones. The objective is to guarantee that the development of the marine and coastal activities and I use it of the resources offered from the sea and from shorelines they happen according to sustainable models.

"Our proposal - it has emphasized the European commissioner for the marine Transactions and the peach, Maria Damanaki - inaugurates a new phase of integrated marine politics of the Union and offers a new instrument for our strategy in favor of the blue increase. In promoting the sustainable development and the investments in favor of the marine activities, the directive will contribute to realize the potentialities of the blue economy of Europe for the increase and the occupation".

"Beyond offering to a healthier atmosphere and better living conditions to 200 million the citizens of the EU who live in the coastal regions - the European commissioner to the Atmosphere has confirmed, Janez Potocnik - this initiative will contribute to preserve shorelines and ecosystems from the only and various characteristics, that they constitute precious habitats for the plants and the animals".

In lack of an adapted coordination - it has found the EU commission - the increasing human and economic activities that take place in marine waters and the coastal zones (production of offshore wind energy, put down of cables and ducts submarines, marine transports, peach and aquaculture) can intensify the competition for the exploitation of the marine space and subject precious resources to excessive pressures. In the within of the proposed action - it has explained the Commission - the Member States will have to elaborate a mapping of such activities by means of plans of management of the marine space for a more effective exploitation of the seas and to develop to strategies of management of the coastal zones understandings to coordinate the measures adopted in the various fields of participation that interest the present activities in such zones. In order to comply to requirement minimums proposed from the directive the Member States will have to guarantee a planning of the marine space and a management of the coastal zones in a position to promoting a sustainable increase, favoring meanwhile the participation of the interested subjects and the cooperation with the adjacent States.

According to the esteem of the EU commission, the measures of coordination and efficientamento proposed with the scope to arrive to an only instrument in order to balance all the interests will moreover contribute to strengthen the certainty for the investor and to for operators reduce the administrative burdens and the national administrations producing savings, in particular for PMI, that they could arrive to 1,6 billion euros in all the European Union.
