The new Guangzhou international airport, regarded as a rival to Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok International Airport, will open on June 29 next year when the current Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport - that has been operating for more than seven decades - formally ends service on June 28.
Construction on the new airport, which costs more than 20 billion yuan (US$2.4 billion), is basically complete; interior decoration is being in the terminal building, and trial flights are scheduled for October
