Ship-breaking at Karachi coast opposed

KARACHI: Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum has expressed concerns that the ship-breaking activity started near Younusabad Jetty would cause marine pollution in the area and displacement of fishermen community living in the neighbourhood.

In a statement on Thursday, Mohammad Ali Shah, Chairperson PFF said, "due to increasing marine pollution at Karachi's coastline the fishermen are suffering from unemployment and starvation-like situation as the fish catch has declined alarmingly. As far as new phenomenon of ship-breaking process at Karachi coast is concerned, it may prove hazardous for the community." ......
