Last year the traffic of the goods in the three apulian ports of Bari, Barletta and Monopolies has grown of 6%



The Harbour Authority of the East has announced that in the 2010 traffic of the goods in the three ports of Bari, Barletta and Monopolies managed from the agency it is piled to 6.347.548 of tons, with an increase of 6.0% regarding 5.985.586 tons enlivened in 2009.

For 2011 full hand is attended an ulterior impulse to the traffic of the goods from the new line feeder container of the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), assets from last December, that it carries out a spin weekly magazine between the ports of Gioia Tauro, Bari and Durrës. The Harbour Authority has emphasized as this new line, for which operatively container is previewed handling of about 50.000 teu, it represents an important considerably competitive factor for the enterprises of the territory reducing the transport costs of the goods that they gravitate on from Bari territory and values to the maximum the role of Bari as gate privileged for the Balkans. In the port of Bari, in fact it journeys about 90% of the adriatic traffics towards Albania.

Last year the traffic of the passengers has been attested altogether to beyond 1,9 million unit, with a bending of 2.9% regarding 1.961.424 passengers in the year precedence. For this year the harbour agency previews a more intense activity thanks to the arrival, for the first time to Bari, of 24 ports of call of the crocieristica company Royal Caribbean; moreover an ulterior ship of Costa Crociere will be placed on Bari and will continue the winter program of MSC Cruises. According to the forecasts of the Harbour Authority, in the 2011 such innovation they would have to carry to Bari beyond 150.000 passengers in more regarding 2010.

The harbour agency has evidenced as in the 2010 port of Bari it has absorbed in way than more positive some events negatives that have marked the year as soon as passed: "it has been be a matter - it has specified port the authority - of the commercial choice of MSC to scale Ancona with an unit of the class Harmony and the Greek crisis that it has seen, against the dramatic situation of that Country, pack-saddles to think to been extended strike of the haulers, only light bendings in the commercial traffic and fleeting. Such events have been in great part compensated on one side from the increment of the traffic ferry (Albania and Croatia) and from the other with the extension of the crocieristica season also to the winter period".

The Harbour Authority has at last remembered the participations in existence in order to adapt infrastructures of the ports of the East to the requirements of the market: they are under development the activities of characterization of the backdrops to the aims of the start, within 2011, of the work of dredging in the three ports in order to guarantee of the best operativity; to Bari, in order to pick all the opportunities offered from the crocieristico market, are previewed the construction within 2012 of the widening of the terminal cruises and of the new one it jut near the dock of West in order to assure the contextual mooring of two unit from 350 meters of length; for the port of Barletta, besides the dredging essential in order to guarantee the operativity of the port, which are previewed important participations the displacement of the coastal warehouses BEES, the extension of the Pier of North wind and the realization of the tourist port in regime of project financing.
