The project to build a new terminal for bulk cargo service to the mining industry in the Australian port of Port Bonython in the Spencer Gulf, is closer to the road having passed the stage of approval with the inclusion of environmental work in project of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The initiative is led by the Spencer Gulf Port Link Consortium has been selected as the highest bidder for the project by the Government of South Australia. The consortium is led by Flinders Ports and Australian dock is owned by Leighton Contractors, Macquarie Capital, BIS Industrial Logistics and the Australian Rail Track Corporation ( of 28 October 2008).
The project, which would take place in about two and a half years, provides, inter alia, the implementation of a pier along three kilometers to reach deep water and able to accommodate Capesize vessels capable of carrying up to 180,000 tons of bulk cargo.
