Last Wednesday the DCT Gdansk container terminal at the port of Gdansk celebrated the handling of the container number one million and three years of starting the port facility ( of 10 March 2003 and October 8 , 2007).
The one millionth container was unloaded from the container of the Emma Maersk Maersk Line during its inaugural call at DCT Gdansk. Just the landing ships of the Maersk Line have permitted a sharp increase in traffic in the container terminal in Poland. Early last year the Danish shipping company has extended its service to include AE10 touch to DCT Gdansk. In addition, since May Maersk Line has entered in this line some of its larger capacity vessels, namely the unity of the class E 15,000 TEUs, which are among the largest container ships in the world.
"The maritime spirit of Gdansk - said the CEO of DCT, Boris Wenzel - is awakening. In the Middle Ages was an important port of Gdansk on the Baltic Sea and are now contributing to what will be the next golden age for Poland and its maritime industry. Bringing class ships and with regular weekly calls at DCT we were able to handle almost 730,000 TEUs in 2010, a volume which corresponds to 75% of our overall change since the terminal. The DCT will not take long to reach the second million TEUs. "
