In the second quarter of this year, the logistics group Kuehne + Nagel has registered a growth of economic contraction compared to a total volume of business. The period has been filed with revenues of 4.966 billion Swiss francs, down by 5.3% compared to 5.245 billion Swiss francs in the period April to June 2010. EBITDA amounted to 253 million Swiss francs (+2.4%), EBIT of 200 million Swiss francs (+5.3%) and net profit to 159 million Swiss francs (+5, 3%).
In the first half of 2011, the Swiss team has forfeited revenues of 9.786 billion Swiss francs, down by 0.6% over the first half of last year. EBITDA and EBIT rose by 5.7% and 10.9% to 502 million and 396 million Swiss francs. Net profit amounted to 314 million Swiss francs (+11.0%).
"The group Kuehne and Nagel - said today the company's CEO, Reinhard Lange - has achieved excellent results in the first six months of 2011 despite a slowdown in market growth during the second quarter and the negative impact on the results strengthening of the Swiss franc. "
In the first half of this year, overseas shipments made by the Group recorded an increase of 11, 8% to 1,579,000 TEUs containers compared to 1,412,000 TEUs. The increase in volume is not paid revenue growth, which however decreased by 3.9% to 4.136 million Swiss francs compared with 4.35 billion in the first half of 2010. This business segment has recorded an EBITDA of 220 million Swiss francs (+7.8%) and an EBIT of 201 million Swiss francs (+10.5%).
In the air freight sector Kuehne + Nagel has handled a traffic of 533,000 tons in the first half of 2011, with an increase of 17.7% compared to 453,000 tonnes in the first six months of last year. The sector recorded a turnover of 2.033 billion Swiss francs (+4.8%), EBITDA of 129 million Swiss francs (+22.9%) and an EBIT of 121 million Swiss francs (+24 , 7%).
Meanwhile, Kuehne + Nagel has signed an agreement to acquire the entire share capital of the Brazilian Eichenberg Logistics Group, based in Porto Alegre and about 700 employees. The company, which was founded 75 years ago, operates in Brazil and in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay.
