The Swiss group ABB has closed the second quarter of this year with a net profit of 893 million dollars on revenues of 9.68 billion dollars, with increases of 43% and 28% over the corresponding period of 2010. EBIT amounted to 1,337 million U.S. dollars (+37%) and EBITDA of 1,547 million U.S. dollars (+22%). In the period April to June of 2011 the company was awarded new orders for 9.867 billion dollars (+29%) and the backlog at the end of the period had amounted to 29.983 billion dollars, up 23% compared to 24,437,000 for U.S. dollars at June 30, 2010.
In the first half of 2011, ABB has achieved a net profit of 1.548 billion dollars of revenues of $ 18.082 billion, with increases of 42% and 25% in the first half of last year. EBIT amounted to 2,350 million (+40%). In the first six months of this year the company has forfeited new orders for a total of 20.224 billion dollars (+29%).
Expressing great satisfaction with the growth of economic performance achieved by the company in the early part of 2011 the group's managing director, Joe Hogan, has also expressed confidence for further future growth prospects, "looking ahead - he explained - it is clear that recent macro-economic concerns related to public debt and inflation have increased. However, based on what we know today, we continue to predict a high demand by industry and productivity solutions for energy efficiency and a recovery in demand for power transmission in the second half of the year. "
ABB Italy, the Italian branch of the group, filed the first half of 2011 with revenues of 1,326 million euros, an increase of 21% compared to 1,100 million euros in the first six months of last year. New orders totaled 1.317 billion euros (+13%). In the second quarter of 2011 Italy ABB reported revenues of 673 million euros, an increase of 15% over the period April to June of last year, and new orders for 586 million euros (-17%).
