The Association of Italian Ports (Assoporti), whose annual meeting of the members met in Rome yesterday, unanimously addressed to the Government an urgent request for intervention in favor of the national port and implementation of reforms "at no cost."
After approving the budget of the association, representatives of the Italian port authorities have examined the situation of the port and agreed on the need to reproduce, in consideration of the VAT occurred within the so-called financial maneuver, the demand for granting of financial autonomy through the recognition of at least this point in more VAT for the part produced by the movement of goods in ports.
Furthermore, members of Assoporti with one voice, for the forthcoming launch of a decree on development and infrastructure, the government has addressed the urgent request to include in the rules at least those that do not affect the state budget with the aim of find solutions to critical issues and more operational role of Port Authorities.
Assoporti requests include: the simplification of procedures for planning of port areas and for the dredging of the seabed, essential interventions to ensure the competitiveness of the sector. In the first place - according to the association - is needed to confirm and strengthen the role of government, administration and coordination of the Port Authority, the simplification of the bureaucracy, the assignment of powers to impose sanctions on health and safety at work, clear definition of the duties of the President, management and functional autonomy of the Port Authority and the exclusive reliance on the same administration of compendiums state-owned.
"All these demands - has confirmed the association president, Francesco Nerli - are absolutely free of charge. From time Assoporti brings them forward in order to run the ports and better meet the needs of operators and their customers.Otherwise you risk jeopardizing an industry that is a resource for the growth of the entire country. These requests are important and urgent. "
Assoporti also noted the great importance of issues related to certainty and uniformity in the rules of work in the port area, which can not be challenged by the contents of the maneuver.
The association has confirmed the date of the next October 18 for the performance of its general assembly which will be completed by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteoli. Assoporti said it expected that, by then, you have new information regarding the issues proposed by the association in favor of Italian ports.
