Today the shipyard Okpo Shipyard South Korean group Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. (DSME) has been named the Jolly Diamond, the first of four new ships with ro-twin Italian shipping company ordered by Ignazio Messina & C. Spa with an investment value of over $ 300 million ( of 16 December 2009). The last three ships (Pearl Jolly, Jolly and Jolly Quartz Crystal) will be taken over by the end of next year.
The four new ro-ro container twins, with a capacity of 3,100 TEUs containers or 6,350 linear feet of rolling cargo, will be among the largest of its kind ever built.The four units, 240 meters long, 37.50 wide and with a speed of 21.5 knots at full load, are entirely designed by the technicians of the company under the guidance of engineer Allieri Genovese, financed by the Bank Group Carige.
The ships are equipped with the most advanced technology and modern pollution control systems, such as a sophisticated and innovative system for cleaning exhaust port and the first in the world to obtain the qualification by RINA to certify the utmost respect GREENPLUS environment.
With the four-ro will have great flexibility, in particular a maximum draft of 11.50 meters with a capacity of 45,200 tonnes that will allow them to climb even those African ports (credited strong development potential and in which the company Genovese is increasingly positioning) and for shallow water and inadequate infrastructure of land can not receive large container ships. The four sister ships will also have a loading ramp with a capacity of 350 tons designed to allow the transport of cargo and material plant up to seven meters below deck.
All four of the vessels fly the Italian flag with class RINA and ABS, will be entered in the International Register kept by the Port of Genoa and mainly operated by crews of Italian nationality.
