Yesterday the representatives of the governments in Caracas of Venezuela and China signed an agreement for the construction of a new container terminal in the port of Puerto Cabello. The agreement was signed by the Venezuelan Minister of Transport and Communications, Francisco Garces, the President of the Bolivarian de Puertos (Bolipuertos), Elsa Gutierrez, and Zhong Chen, vice president and managing director of the Chinese company China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) China Communications Construction Group Company (CCCC).
The project will be implemented in three phases, beginning of the first planned next year thanks to an investment of 520 million dollars. The new terminal will cover an area of 38 hectares and will have a quay of 690 meters with six gantry cranes. According to forecasts, the new plant becomes operational in 2014.
