Agreement Sardinia Region - Italian Space Agency for the development of satellite technologies in railway field



Today to Cagliari the Sardinia Region and Italian Space Agency (ASI) have undersigned a protocol of understanding for the application of the satellite technologies tied to programs dedicated to the control of the railway circulation and to the infomobilità. The agreement previews that the agencies will collaborate in order to promote an experimentation, based on satellite technologies of localization/navigation and telecommunications, able to innovate the railway circulation in the island.

The objective is that to promote the excellence of the research & development of innovative technologies for the railway circulation, optimizing the infrastructural investments legacies to the modernization and expansion of the net of rail shipment of the Sardinia Region through the realization of projects of satellite ERTMS so as to increase the efficiency and the effectiveness of the investments correlated to the modernization and the expansion of own system of rail shipment.

The document will have a its application specifically oriented to must of the regional and local lines of the Sardinia for which the satellite technologies will be able to allow the reduction of investments legacies with the systems long the railway line and the relative burdens of management. In order to reach such objective, the Region will estimate the possibility to put on specific lines of financing, characterized in the within of deep communitarian and the regional ones of own competence. The ASI, from part its, will put on own know-how-how, own ability to programmatico and technical coordination, own carrier language ability to in international within (for example with ESAs) projects and national spatial programs, and the technologies of base already developed in collaboration with the national industry, also to the aim to retrieve specific necessary lines of financing to the attainment of the objectives of which to the described points over.
