Twelfth edition of the RINA-d'Amico "Student Naval Architect Award"



Yesterday near the School Polytechnic of the University of the Studies of Genoa the award ceremony of the RINA-d'Amico "Student Naval Architect Award" has been carried out, prestigious acknowledgment conferred from the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) in collaboration with the shipowning group of Friend who this year is assigned to Sofia Guidomei.

Guidomei, graduated in Naval Engineering near the University of Genoa, has obtained the prize with a thesis, to which the dignity is attributed of prints, from the title "Analysis of the resistance to the motion in the presence of Air-bubbling: experimentation on the model". The elaborated one has been based on an activity of experimental type, it turns to the DREAMS Lab of the University of the capital of Liguria, and has analyzed to the reduction of the resistance of friction due to the bubbling generated from a pneumatic circuit purposely realized.

The "Student Naval Architect Award" is conferred by the Royal Institution of Naval Architects in more than 30 university in the world, between which the historical University of the Studies of Genoa, selected for its great tradition and collaboration with the naval world.

The historical vicinity of the group of Friend to the marine academic truths is time to construct, with young people with a formation of excellence and to the institutions of international level, the future of the shipping. Al fine to promote and to favor the technical and scientific exchange of information in the within of the planning and the shipbuilding, in the course of the time is consolidated the collaboration with the Royal Institution of Naval Architects, the British professional association of the naval engineers founded to London in 1860, and with the Department of Naval Engineering of the University of Genoa (DITEN).

It is for us therefore source of great pride to reward the talent of a young person graduated in naval engineering near the University of Genoa".

During the award ceremony they are taken part also professor Carlo Podenzana-Bonvino of the University of Genoa (School Polytechnic, DITEN), and Trevor Blakeley, chief executive The Royal Institution of Naval Architects UK, than in this occasion also it has delivered prestigious Ian Telfer Prize of the RINA - prize for the best article published in the "Transactions" from authors within the 35 years - to Annalisa Margarita (Costa Crociere Spa) and Alessandro Boveri (UNIGE PhD) for the article "Decision support system for power generation management for 110.000+ GRT cruise ship". To follow, René Berkvens, managing director of Damen Shipyards Group, has held lecture from the shipbuilding title "the naval one: a challenge in a world that it changes".

The conference has been organized from The Royal Institution of Naval Architects - Genoa Branch in collaboration with ATHENA - Piedmontese From Liguria Section, of Friendly Society of Navigation and the Order of the Engineers of the Province of Genoa.
