The Grimaldi group took delivery of the new pure car yesterday and truck carrier Greater Egypt, which was built China Merchants Heavy Industries Jiangsu and which is sister ship of the Grande Pacifico, which entered service the month with which it shares the distinction of being the largest PCTC in the fleet of the Neapolitan shipping group.

Greater Egypt is the fourteenth unit ammonia ready of Grimaldi's fleet having obtained from the Register Italian Naval Ammonia Ready class notation certifying which can be converted to the use of ammonia as a alternative fuel with zero carbon emissions. Long 220 meters wide and 38 meters wide, the ship has a gross tonnage of 95,534 tons and a cruising speed of 18 knots. Thanks to the configuration of its 15 decks, its load capacity reaches 9,800 ceu. In addition to electric vehicles and those powered by conventional fuels, the vessel is designed also for the transport of vehicles powered by natural gas (CNG). The ship also obtained several other notations including Green Plus, Green Star 3, Comfort Vibration and Comfort Noise Port. Thanks to numerous eco-friendly technologies adopted on board, the Great Egypt is capable of 50% reduction in fuel consumption compared to car ships carriers of the previous generation.

Equipped with mega lithium batteries with a capacity total of five MWh and prepared for the electric from shore (cold ironing) in equipped ports, the ship is able to eliminate emissions during stops on the quay.

The maiden voyage of Greater Egypt will have start next week on the Asia-East Africa service that connects Far Eastern markets with major hubs of East Africa. The ship will embark a total of 4,150 cars and 6,200 linear meters of rolling goods (excavators, buses, trucks) in the Asian ports of Taicang (China), Yokohama and Nagoya (Japan), with destination Dar Es Salaam (Tanzania) and Mombasa (Kenya).
