Last July, freight traffic was in growth in both the Ligurian ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado Ligure having amounted to 4.42 million and 1.38 million respectively tons, with increases of +5.6% and +11.9% over July 2025. In July 2026 the volume of miscellaneous goods handled by the port of Ligurian capital amounted to 2.90 million tons (+2.7%), of which 1.91 million tonnes of containerised goods (+0.4%) made with a container handling of 205,096 TEUs (+2.2%) and 989 thousand tons of conventional goods (+7,4%). In addition, 1.34 million vehicles were handled in Genoa tonnes of liquid bulk (+13.5%), including 1.26 million tons of mineral oils (+14.0%), 46 thousand tons of products chemical (+38.5%) and 31 thousand tons of vegetable oils and wine (-20.2%), and 50 thousand tons of dry bulk in the segment commercial sector (+7.4%) and the same number in the industrial sector (-14.8%). The bunker supplies and on-board supplies amounted to 81 thousand tons (+3.2%).

In the port of Savona-Vado the traffic of various goods in July 2026 stood at 659 thousand tons (+9.2%), of which 343 thousand tons of container loads (+19.2%) made with container handling of 49,498 TEUs (-8.3%) and 315 thousand tons of conventional goods (0%). The traffic of dry bulk was 92 thousand tons (+99.2%), while In the liquid bulk sector, 615 thousand were handled tons of mineral oils (+8.4%) and 16 thousand tons of oils vegetables and wine (+32.1%). Bunker supplies and on-board supplies amounted to over two thousand tons (-68.8%).

Last July, cruise traffic in the two ports increased in Genoa having been 173 thousand passengers (+2.7%) while it fell in Savona with 53 thousand passengers (-2.0%). Conversely, in the Savona airport, the traffic of the ferry passengers, which totaled 97 thousand people (+35.8%) while in Genoa it decreased by -8.9% to 408 thousand units.

In the first seven months of 2026, the port of Genoa handled 28.04 million tonnes of cargo, with a slight decrease in -0.6% over the corresponding period of 2025. Containerized goods amounted to 13.48 million tonnes (-0.2%) with a handling of containers of 1,405,089 TEUs (-1.0%). Goods 5.97 million tonnes (+7.8%). The dry bulk in the commercial and industrial sectors amounted to 339 thousand (-16.9%) and 435 thousand tons (-37.8%). Oils totalled 6.92 million tonnes (-3.3%) and the other liquid bulk cargo 468 thousand tons (+0.2%). The traffic of cruises was 839 thousand passengers (+1.9%) and that of the ferries with 1.05 million passengers (-6.0%).

In the period January-July of this year, the total traffic of goods in Savona-Vado was 8.90 million tonnes (-0.7%), of which 2.03 million tonnes of cargo containerized (-14.5%) with a container handling of 299,660 TEUs (-8.0%), 2.00 million tons of cargo conventional bulk (+1.3%), 951 thousand tons of dry bulk (-2.6%), 3.83 million tons of mineral oils (+8.5%) and 59 thousand tonnes of other liquid bulk cargo (-14.6%). Both the cruises and ferries with 465 thousand (+3.5%) and 177 thousand passengers (+10.5%).
