UNIONS URGE US TO DROP JAPANESE SHIP SANCTIONS

Transport workers unions have urged US president Bill Clinton to suspend sanctions imposed on Japanese ships calling at US ports.
International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) general secretary David Cockroft has written to Mr Clinton opposing the use of US economic power to impose changes on employment conditions in Japanese ports.
