AMERICAN FREIGHT RAIL TRAFFIC HITS MID-YEAR RECORD LEVELS

WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. and Canadian freight rail traffic, as of mid-year, is moving at record levels compared to previous years, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) reports. According to AAR Senior Assistant Vice President, Craig Rockey, "After 26 weeks, U.S. intermodal container and trailer units are 6.7 percent ahead of 1996 and non-intermodal carloadings are up 1.5 percent.
