SAN FRANCISCO -- Recent appreciation of the Yen against the U.S. dollar has prompted transpacific shipping lines to increase their currency surcharge on cargo moving from the U.S. to Japan. The Transpacific Westbound Rate Agreement (TWRA) said it will raise its Japan currency adjustment factor (CAF) surcharge on Japan-bound cargo from 38 to 43 percent, effective for the calendar quarter beginning October 1, 1997. ......
