FINANCIAL results for the Panama Canal's just-ended fiscal year were not affected by the El Nino weather phenomenon which prompted draft restrictions on the canal last summer, or the Asian economic crisis.

In fact, revenue from tolls on the canal were up nearly 11 per cent to US$545.7 million.
