Carnival buys Britain's Cunard in surprise US$500m deal

US cruise behemoth Carnival Corporation on Friday swallowed up the Queen Elizabeth II and its British parent Cunard Line -- once a trans-Atlantic transport titan, now an also-ran in an era of entertainment cruising.
