Port Hamburg hits 76.7 million tons of cargo to make 1997 a record year

HAMBURG -- Driven by a double-digit increase in container traffic, cargo turnover at the Port of Hamburg last year hit a record high of 76.8 million tons.
Rising by 10.4 percent compared with prior year figures, container tonnage during 1997 totaled 3.3 million TEUs, according to preliminary figures.
