Port of Long Beach makes January gains

BOTH imports and exports at the Port of Long Beach gained well in January, pushing the port's total container volume up to the equivalent of 319,312 TEU, a 10.8 per cent improvement over January 1998.
The surge in trade at the nation's busiest container port reflects continued strong US consumer spending and the beginnings of a recovery in Asia.
