FMC backs down on bonds

FREIGHT forwarders have brokered a deal with the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) to reduce bond requirements under the Ocean Reform of Shipping Act.
Originally, the FMC wanted overseas forwarders issuing bills of lading for shipment to post a US$150,000 bond as opposed to the current requirement of $50,000.
