Japanese shipbuilders see fall in total workforce for first time

THE number of full-time workers in Japan's shipbuilding industry continues to drop as the sector goes through a consolidation period.

In the six months ending in April, 367 jobs were lost, as the total workforce shrank to 19,022, according to statistics released by the Shipbuilder's Association of Japan.
