Cargo owner not bound to pay for unnecessary towage

THE English Admiralty Court has ruled that a reasonable ship owner ought to conduct a full investigation before committing a cargo owner to pay for a long tow from the Red Sea to Singapore under a Lloyd's Open Form (LOF) salvage contract.
The decision was made in The Pa Mar (1999, 1 Lloyd's Law Reports, 338).
