    Le constructeur automobile américain General Motors vient d'attribuer un contrat d'une durée de quatre ans et d'une valeur de 60 millions de GBP au logisticien européen Christian Salvesen pour la livraison de composants d'origine britanniques aux usines du groupe. Christian Salvesen traitera quelque 80.000 lots par an, représentant un trafic d'environ un demi-million de tonnes, au Royaume-Uni. Il s'agit du plus grand contrat "industriel" jamais signé par Christian Salvesen.

    "En dépit du mouvement de concentration constaté sur le continent nord-européen, il est intéressant de noter que le plus petit des quatre grands gagne le plus de terrain, tandis que le numéro un progresse le moins. La croissance de Rotterdam dans le transbordement containérisé est 50% moins élevé que celle de ses trois plus importants concurrents". C'est ce qu'a déclaré Hans Ludwig Beth du groupe de promotion portuaire de Hambourg lors de la présentation des chiffres semestriels du port de l'Elbe.

    Le secteur fluvial européen dispose désormais avec le site "Observatoire de la Navigation Intérieure" d'un des outils Internet les plus complets de tous les vecteurs de transport dans l'Union européenne.   • Marées noires: l'ESC dénonce la "faillite totale" du système de prévention actuel
    Certaines propositions de la Commission européenne en matière de sécurité du transport maritime d'hydrocarbures - contrôle plus strict des navires et des armateurs, définition plus stricte des critères de contrôle utilisés par les sociétés de classification, généralisation des pétroliers à double coque - "paraissent positives aux industriels et commerçants utilisateurs de transport maritime", estime l'organisation des chargeurs européens ESC, dont l'Association française des Utilisateurs de Transport de Fret (AUTF) rapporte l'avis dans un communiqué de presse. Il y a cependant un grand "mais": "Si ces mesures préventives sont nécessaires, elles ne peuvent garantir qu'aucun pétrolier, sous-normes ou pas, ne sera plus jamais victime d'un nouvel incident. Dans cette éventualité, les propositions de la Commission tendent à entériner l'état de fait actuel, à savoir une responsabilité quasi-exclusive des affréteurs. Elle semble exclure d'emblée toute responsabilité financière réelle des armateurs." Les chargeurs européens formulent dès lors certaines contre-propositions.
