    The European Commission is launching a formal investigation into the acquisition by the Spanish state agency SEPI of two shipyards and the Manises diesel plant from its Astilleros Espa'oles SA subsidiary. The Commission has doubts whether the transaction can be regarded as a commercial transaction, and believes the measure is a capital injection that constitutes state aid.

    Le marché du camion (porteurs de + 3,5 t et tracteurs) en Belgique a baissé de 6,0% au cours du premier semestre de cette année, passant de 7.325 unités à l'issue des six premiers mois de 1999 à 6.885 unités. La baisse des immatriculations de porteurs est minime: -2,0%, de 3.574 à 3.501 unités; en tracteurs elle est plus sérieuse: -9,8%, de 3.751 à 3.384 unités. C'est ce qui ressort des chiffres semestriels publiés par la Febiac. Cette baisse, toutefois, a été enregistrée par rapport à un niveau record. Ainsi, malgré cette diminution de près de 10%, le marché des tracteurs était encore à un niveau le deuxième plus élevé jamais noté.

    La patience du port de Rotterdam est énormement mise à l'épreuve en ce qui concerne l'expansion portuaire jugée indispensable de la Deuxième Maasvlakte. Mais aucune décision définitive sur l'expansion portuaire n'est encore tombée.
