UK shipbuilder Vosper Thornycroft has warned that it will have to make more than half of its workforce redundant unless it wins more work.

In a statement, the company said it was issuing a redundancy notice for about 650 of its 1,200 shipbuilding workforce, which would take effect "early next year" if it was unable to secure fresh contracts.
