Ship safety certificates vary

The first international survey of detentions of sub-standard ships has revealed a wide disparity between the main classification societies that grant safety certificates.
Det Norske Veritas, the Norwegian class society that commissioned the report, came out top, with just 3 per cent of ships inspected detained.
