EU demand for aviation fuel tax
(The Times)
March 13, 2000
From Alasdair Murray in Brussels
THE European Commission will today demand that finance ministers impose an aviation fuel tax, raising fears that many budget airlines could be put out of business.
The tax could lead to an £80 rise in airline ticket prices at a time when many smaller airlines are struggling to cope with the rise in fuel prices.
