    Les conventions Euro-Med "From land to sea" qu'organise chaque année depuis cinq ans l'armement Grimaldi (groupe Naples) ont ceci d'intéressant qu'elles obligent certains milieux politiques et professionnels du transport, plus précisément italiens, à prendre conscience des enjeux du short sea, des possibilités que présente cette alternative et des obstacles qui subsistent à son expansion. Comme l'a très bien souligné l'échevin du port d'Anvers L. Delwaide lors de ladite conférence, rien que la région de la mer du Nord compte plusieurs milliers de kilomètres de côtes, les principaux centre de croissance économique et industrielle sont à des distance de moins de 400 km des ports, 70% d'entre eux étant à mois de 200 km de la mer. On peut donc comprendre cette volonté européenne de développer le short sea shipping (SSS).
