Autonomous body on ship-breaking in offing

The Union government has decided to set up a new autonomous body, on the lines of the Bureau of International Recycling at Brussels, to promote recycling of scrap steel, particularly those generated from ship-breaking, it is learnt.

To finance this body, the government is considering introducing a small cess on the tonnage broken in the country.
