5 pc service tax on port services comes into effect - Terminal handling/inland haulage charges to go up

In the absence of any notification specifying the date from which the service tax will come into force, almost all Major Ports have decided to go ahead and charge 5 per cent service tax with effect from July 1. Consequently, even the terminal handling charges are likely to go up.
