The Greek shipping community has warned that chaos and disruptions to the international flow of oil will result from the 2010 deadline to use only double-hull tankers in the EU. The International Association of Independent Tanker Owners (Intertanko) has also warned that the EU accelerated single-hull phase out will lead to unpredictable tanker availability.
In a presentation at the Nor Shipping Seatrade Conference in Oslo last week, Erik Ranheim, Research and Projects Manager at Intertanko, said that the EU decision to phase out MARPOL single-hulled tankers by 2010 will put a strain on all market participants.
