Future of sub-contractors remains unclear

The Port of Beirut has finished drafting a tender to hire an operator for its container terminal, but maritime officials say lingering technical differences and the unresolved fate of the current sub-contractors may delay the bidding process.
The tender was expected to be launched end of September but was delayed due to differences between the port and its consulting firm, US-based Cornell, over the specifications.
Officials also said the port was waiting for the government to resolve the fate of 500 sub-contractors currently working at the port who could lose their jobs once the operator starts running the container terminal
