Mumbai, Sept 19: Tonnage tax for Indian shipping companies will be made effective from April 1, 2004 after the bill is passed in the winter session of Parliament.

There were accounting problems for the companies, the excise department and the income-tax in introducing tonnage tax in the middle of the financial year, Union minister of state for shipping DM Gandhi said here on Friday ......
