FIVE pirate attacks in the past week at the Gelasa Straits, near the Straits of Malacca's southern tip, has prompted the International Maritime Bureau (IMB) to warn commercial ships plying the route to be on extra alert.

Ships passing the waters off the Indonesian islands have been carrying out a piracy watch to prevent such incidents.
