Ningbo vice-mayor Wu Hemin said yesterday the Central Government had given the green light for phase five of the city's Beilun port and that early-stage works on phase six have already kicked off.
By 2010, the ice-free, silt-free and all-weather port would handle 10 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), Wu said on the sidelines of the Ningbo-Hong Kong Economic Co-operation Forum being held in the SAR. Asked about the latest developments in negotiations with overseas firms interested in phase four of Beilun port, Wu said, "They approached us rather than we approached them. No decision has been made yet"
