A secret empowerment consortium is putting together a grouping to start SA's first black-owned shipping line, aiming to muscle in on an industry dominated by foreign-owned players.
This would be the first major project to take off after the Maritime Empowerment Charter was passed, and would be only one of two South African-owned shipping lines (the hundreds of others servicing SA are all foreign owned) carrying the 212-million tons of imports and exports that leave SA's shores each year
