THE Australian competition regulator will allow a group of international shipping lines importing billions of dollars worth of cargo from China to Australia to continue a longstanding commercial practice of legally fixing freight rates among themselves - but has strongly questioned the public benefits.
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission found insufficient grounds to remove a Trade Practices exemption which allows the 16 member shipping lines to engage in anti-competitive behaviour
