THE number of shipbuilders on the Clyde could double in the next decade if BAE Systems, the defence contractor that owns the yards at Scotstoun and Govan, is successful in securing a series of contracts over the next three years.
Vic Emery, the managing director of BAE's Naval Ships Division, said yesterday the group would need to boost its manufacturing workforce by around 1,300 if it picks up contracts currently in the pipeline
