THE adoption by the European Union (EU) of more stringent rules on chemical imports because of health and environmental reasons is a major concern facing the chemical industry and could prove to be a bane for Asean players.
Making this point yesterday, Singapore Chemical Industry Council (SCIC) chairman Ooi Chwee Kim said that the EU's Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (Reach) system would require increased testing of chemicals and more paperwork
