The Government has warned the European Commission that it has serious concerns over a proposed directive it believes could damage Britain's ports industry.

Tony McNulty, the transport minister, told the EC transport council last month that the directive, as currently drafted, would harm Britain's industry, which has a different structure to the continental model ......
