It will be established in Genoa on October 1. It will be housed by "Ponte dei Mille" and will be headed by Captain Alessandro Verani.
September 11, 1997
On October 1 it will be set up in Genoa the Directorate of Navigation Safety Systems (Direzione dei Servizi di Sicurezza della Navigazione) as an internal office of the Headquarter of Harbour-Master Offices (Comando Generale delle Capitanerie di Porto). The new office is established as a consequence of the rule n. 647 of December 23, 1996, which assigned to the Headquarterthe right to exert the competence of the Ministry of Transportation (Ministero dei Trasporti) in such field.
The choice of Genoa, stated in a comunication the local Harbour-Master Office, is determined by the need to keep and develop a constant relationship between the maritime administration, the main national shipping companies and the classification bodies, in particular the Registro Navale Italiano (RINa), which all have in Genoa their national location, and it will be a practical example of making the State Administration close to the shipping world.
The Directorate will be made up of officers coming from the Harbour-Master Office corps, selected among those with a special competence in the field, and it will be located by Ponte dei Mille, in the premises of the Maritime Station of Genoa and, till a few years ago, of the Harbour-Master Officeas well as of the Maritime Directorate of Genoa.
The Port Authority of Genoa ensured her cooperation for the setting up of the new structure.
Captain Alessandro Verani (capitano di vascello - CP), former vice commander of the Harbour-Master Office of Genoa, was nominated for the direction of the services.
